Amy Clarke

My works are responses to my strong emotions and feelings. As a mechanism of accepting these strong emotions and feelings- my responses dictate my visuals. I find structure and self-appreciation through texture and visually expressing the sense of longing. I explore the limitations of sexuality- how sexuality builds walls- personally, interpersonally and in society. My use of band aids looks at mental trauma and harm. Most wounds whether they are bruises, cuts, or broken bones will heal eventually and disappear. With the bandaids I am trying to see the open wounds and scars that mental abuse can cause. The pain is not visible but at times can be more painful. Through my use of pinks/reds/browns I look at elements of the human body- the heart, the brain, the skin, the lips, blood. As well as the blues I use- tears, water, the sky, sadness, but also hope.
